Subject: Amtrak Cascades Adds 11 More Trains for Busy Thanksgiving Weekend Update
Return of express train â" Seattle to Portland on Thanksgiving Eve
SEATTLE â" Amtrak will add 11 trains along the Amtrak Cascades route between Portland and Seattle to accommodate the travel demand during the holiday week. The extra Amtrak Cascades trains will operate Wednesday, Nov. 23, through Sunday, Nov. 27.
For a second year, rail passengers can take a Thanksgiving Eve express service on Nov. 23, to Portland from Seattle. The non-stop train will depart one minute before midnight and arrive in Portland at 4:14 am. In addition, Amtrak will operate three non-stop roundtrip Thruway motorcoaches between Portland and Seattle. Amtrak is also adding a Thruway motorcoach connection from Bellingham to Seattle for the Coast Starlight trains, 11 and 14, on Wednesday and Sunday. The week of Thanksgiving is typically Amtrakâs busiest travel period of the year.
Regular one-way adult fares between Seattle and Portland start as low as $31, but are going fast. All Amtrak Cascades trains require reservations and passengers are encouraged to purchase tickets early to obtain lowest fares. Visit www.AmtrakCascades.com, or call 800-USA-RAIL for reservations and information.
Amtrak Cascades operates three daily round trips between Portland and Seattle; one daily round trip between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C., and one between Portland and Vancouver, B.C.; and daily service between Eugene and Seattle, via Portland. Amtrak Cascades is operated by Amtrak in partnership with the Washington and Oregon Departments of Transportation. For Amtrak Cascades fares and schedules, visit AmtrakCascades.com.
Amtrak and the Washington State Department of Transportation will operate eleven extra trains in order to supplement regularly scheduled Amtrak Cascades service for the Thanksgiving 2011 holiday to accommodate increased ridership.
Extra time is added to the schedule because these trains may experience brief delays due to track congestion. Proposed schedules have been constructed to operate at 4 hours and 15 minutes between Seattle and Portland and will make all regularly scheduled stops except for train 503 on November 23 which will run non-stop.
