...A SIGNIFICANT EARLY SEASON STORM SYSTEM MAY AFFECT THE SOUTHLAND
LATER THIS WEEK INTO THE WEEKEND...

A STRONG STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP IN THE PACIFIC LATER
THIS WEEK...POSSIBLY BRINGING HEAVY RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOWS TO
THE REGION FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY. COMPUTER MODELS CONTINUE TO SHOW
SOME DIFFERENCES REGARDING THE EXACT TRACK AND TIMING OF THE
SYSTEM. THE CURRENT THINKING IS THAT RAIN WILL DEVELOP ON THE
CENTRAL COAST LATE THURSDAY NIGHT...REACHING THE LOS ANGELES BASIN
SOMETIME FRIDAY OR EARLY FRIDAY NIGHT. THE RAIN IS EXPECTED TO
TURN TO SHOWERS FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE REGION ON
SATURDAY.

IN ADDITION TO THE RAIN...THIS STORM COULD BRING GUSTY SOUTH WINDS
TO PARTS OF THE SOUTHLAND...ESPECIALLY ACROSS SAN LUIS OBISPO AND
SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES...AND IN THE MOUNTAINS. THERE IS ALSO THE
POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS LATE FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY.

ALTHOUGH IT IS STILL RATHER EARLY...THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL
TO BRING 1 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN TO COASTAL AND VALLEY AREAS...WITH
2 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN POSSIBLE IN THE FOOTHILLS AND MOUNTAINS.
SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS IN
THE MOUNTAINS.

RESIDENTS OF SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA ARE URGED TO STAY TUNED FOR
THE LATEST FORECASTS CONCERNING THIS POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT WEATHER
EVENT.
